Jargen's Apothecary Attachment

Jargen's apothecary had been profiting exceptionally well in the recent years, as many ailments had sprung up since the world began to crumble. Jargen had just about any potion or ingredient you could think of, be that legal or illegal. Despite his plethora of illegal contraband, he never had to deal with the authorities questioning his methods or sales, as people all over the city, authorities included, were in need of his medicine.

Each self was lined with jars and vials, most of which were filled with luminescent liquids and ingredients. Labels were on each of the filled jars, ranging everywhere from devil's ear to spider's silk and gryffin's claw. The potions were written in an unreadable language known only to Jargen himself, but all one needed to do was explain his or her symptoms and Jargen would fill a small vial with the necessary liquid.

Jargen's Apothecary Empty Strange Encounter

Post by Lythil Thu Jun 02, 2016 2:45 am

Lythil 1

Lythil hurried into the low-lit shop, closing the door quietly behind her. A small bell chimed and the shop keeper emerged from a dark doorway behind the counter.

“G’day miss. What can I do for you?” He asked expectantly as he swatted dried plant matter from the countertop, his eyes downcast and disinterested.

“Lilac buds, lambs ear, aloe gel, and calendula seeds. Please hurry if you can!” she spouted out. Her delicate face seemed relaxed, yet her words came out quickly and with a sense of urgency.

The shop keep turned and began digging through drawers and jars, obviously in no rush. Lythil’s eyes darted around the room impatiently, falling on a dull and rusted mirror sitting near her by the register. Even in the dim light of the store she could see the faint green tint of her Dryadic skin and how it darkened ever so slightly around her fingertips, her slightly pointed ear tips, and her scalp, which framed her face nicely in her opinion. Her wispy blonde hair was disheveled and tangled from her rush here, and her eyes glimmered more than usual in the low light almost to the point of glowing. She combed her hair with her fingertips and gathered her sheer white robes around her and reexamined herself. Her small mouth pouted with worry as she waited.

Finally, the merchant returned to the counter and laid out three carefully measured piles of herbs and a teacup sized ceramic jar of translucent green goo. Before he could protest her lack of payment Lyhtil grabbed up the handful of calendula seeds and squeezed them tightly between her palms. When she opened them back up small sprouts rested in her hands. She watched carefully, her eyes glowing vividly now as the sprouts grew quickly into several fully grown flowers.

“That’s something el-“ the shop keep began, then cut himself off when Lythil shoved one of the flowers in its entirety into her mouth, chewing hurriedly.

Gesturing for a stone mortar and pestle on the other side of the counter and receiving it quickly, she spat the paste into it and promptly emptied the other substances into it as well. After making a smooth salve, she reached into a fold in her robes and pulled out a limp hummingbird. Small smears of blood smudged her hands as she rubbed the salve onto the base of the bird’s left wing and neck.

“That bird’s already dead miss, that mixture won’t do much good now.” He said matter-of-factly.
Lythil disregarded him, her eyes locked on the hummingbird. She took it in both of her hands and held firmly. A few moments passed in silence, then the bird jolted and darted out of her hands and out the window.

“Rarely have I seen any magic like that miss.” The shop keep said with respect. “…now about my payment.” He held his hand out, one eyebrow raised. Lythil smiled sweetly.

“Oh, I don’t have any money.”

Jargen's Apothecary Empty Namaarie 13: I'm Your Customer Now.

Post by Gabriel PH Thu Jun 02, 2016 5:54 am

Hurridly creeping to the counter, Namaarie tried to ignore both the pain and the argument that was rousing beside him. As the older man berated the young lady, Namaarie tried to interject, "Excuse me sir, may I have some Imp stool, Aloe Vera leaves, Lady's Mantle Leaves, and... something wooden to bite down on?" The man ignored his requests, still preoccupied by the young lady. "Excuse me sir...?" The man continued to ignore him and in that moment something was triggered in Namaarie. He slipped back to years ago when he was growing up in The Emerald City. He remembered walking to the local bakery and asking for a sweet roll. Young Namaarie peaked over the counter and saw just which roll he would get. Namaarie was excluded from family dinners and usually ate the scraps at home. If he wanted a sweet, he would have to treat himself. "Exuse me sir, can a have the sweet roll nearest to the window?" The older man continued mixing a sweet concoction in a bowl. Maybe he was too distracted and couldn't hear him. The bell above the front door rang and young Draegyn's friends walked in. They strolled over to the counter and aired a laundry list of treats they desired. The shop keeper immediately gathered their sweets, they paid and ate the sweets next to the window. They were obnoxious but all Namaarie wanted was to be one of them. After a while passed, they all finally left and the shop keeper returned to his baking and glazing of treats. Again Namaarie asked for a sweet roll, since the one he had his eye on had been since taken, he settled for another. "Sir, can I have a sweet roll?" Finally, the man glanced at the boy and pulled a little wooden stand that read, "Dirtyblood heathens at bay." Then the man said, "Get on boy, don't bother comin' back." Young Namaaire apologized to the man as he backed away and left the bakery. His face started to feel hot and his eyes swelled.

Namaarie now stood in the in the apothecary with memories flooding his mind. Though they were painful, they distracted him from the pain in his ankle. In addition, those memories brought rage. Bass rose from somewhere deep inside Namaarie. "I said I would like some Imp stool, Aloe Vera leaves and Lady's Mantle Leaves, Damnit!" The old man was shocked by Namaarie's behavior. Nervously, the man said "I sold the last of my Aloe Vera... to her." He then glanced over to the blond woman. In that moment, Namaarie wanted to erupt but out of fear for adhering to every stereotype made about halfbreeds, his self-restraint inhibited him. Namaarie let out a limp laugh in defeat, "Of course, I apologize."

Lythil 2

Lythil looked at the shop keep, then the half faerie, then back to the shop keep. She’d gotten herself into quite a pickle. Until now on her journey she’d taken care of herself by sleeping outside and eating sunlight. Her past experiences with other humanoids in the old days had led her to believe that people bartered for their items, yet this man seemed quite uninterested in that. At any rate, she hadn’t thought for a second he would demand payment for saving another living thing’s life. To be so greedy! It shocked her. Where was the love?

At this very moment though, her thoughts had shifted. This poor man beside her was hurt as well, and she could tell in more ways than one. Likely she had brought back some haunting memory from the way he acted towards such a minor unintentional action. Her eyes teared up slightly. It was time to try an attempt at diffusing the situation.

Lythil crossed her ankles and wove her fingers together in front of her, bringing her shoulders forward in a genuine yet very intentionally innocent and unthreatening fashion. Her lip pouted slightly. A subtle scent of rosemary and lemongrass filled the room.

“I’m very sorry for the trouble gentlemen… I didn’t mean to inconvenience either of you…”

The shop keeps jaw began to lose its tension, and his shoulders relaxed. It was having some effect.

“I propose something that can help all of us, if you’re okay with it?” She aimed her question at the half faerie and glanced at him. His body language was ever-so-slightly more relaxed as well. Good for him. She didn’t like him being so distressed.

“If you sir can cover my costs so that I don’t end up this nice shop-keeps prisoner, I’d be more than happy to tend to your wound, I’m more than capable. Everybody would win.”

Her eyes glowed brightly from her pheromones. The slightest hint of mint danced through the room. How refreshing. She didn’t get that often.

“I would be more than happy with that arrangement” Piped in the merchant with a slack jawed smile as he watched the Dryad. “In fact, you can have a thirty percent discount.”

Oh. That was unintentional, but very nice. He must be a somewhat generous person after all. How kind of him.

“Well? What do you say sir?” She cocked her head slightly and looked expectantly at the half faerie with an apologetic smile.

Jargen's Apothecary Empty Namaarie 14: Peaceful Exchange.

Post by Gabriel PH Thu Jun 02, 2016 7:21 am

Namaarie felt a cooling mist brush across his face as this strange woman directed her attention toward her. Though he felt angry and defeated, now it didn't seem to hurt as much anymore. Even his ankle was was beginning to feel relief. "How much does she owe you?" Namaarie sighed. The man stumbled trying to calculate how much she actually owed.

"Well, with the discount... that would be um," He pulled out a piece of parchment and scribbled something down, "One silver coin and two bronze." Namaarie tossed the coins on the counter, "Thank you," he said to the shop keeper. Then he glanced at the blonde haired woman with a yearning gaze as the pain in his ankle started to return.

Lythil 3

Lythil gave a sigh of relief. She’d done well for being out of her element. In Antiqua forest it would’ve been almost impossible to accomplish something so minimal, her powers would have been much too powerful from being surrounded by hundreds of miles of forests. She thanked Omnia for her success, then felt a sudden pang in her chest when she heard no response. Where was he. Not long ago she had been sitting amongst his branches, feeling his praise and hearing his wisdom. Now he was silent, without even the slightest sense of his presence.

She shook it off. Another time. Another place.

“Thank you so much~! Here, let’s get out in the moonlight. It will make it easier for me.” She shelved her negative emotions for the time being, it would make it harder to help this winged man at her side. She turned to head out, then paused. Turning back around toward the counter she dipped her pinky finger in the ceramic jar, getting the last bit of paste from it. With that, she took the half faerie by the hand and trotted out the door into the fresh moonlight.

It was a full moon, with clouds spotting the sky. Or was it smog? She couldn’t tell, everything was so deceitful in this city. Shortly after arriving in the city she had approached a tree after a particularly draining day only to find out it was fake! A fake tree! Who would have a need for such a thing? It was outright blasphemous. She shuddered at the memory.

She turned to face the man, and taking him by the shoulders, pressed down gently to encourage him to sit on the stone bench behind him. The night was illuminated nicely, both from the moon peeking out behind the clouds and from the street lamp that cast a purpleish-blue hue on everything it touched. Fireflies swayed in the night breeze. Hollow footsteps echoed through the alleyways and metallic grinding from some foreign machinery sounded off in the distance.

“My name is Lythil by the way…” she said as she examined his ankle carefully. It was indeed swollen and had some moderate scraping to it. It was a bit dirty as well, smeared with black mystery muck. She took a swath of fabric from her robes off of her body and began cleaning the wound. It was beginning to get infected already. After doing the best she could with what she had, she took her other hand and rubbed the remaining poultice on her pinky between it and her thumb. Looking around, she found a small patch of dirt between the stones in the street and buried the mixture. After watching it for a moment, all of the plants she had attempted to purchase before had grown up between the cracks of the street, albeit in fewer number and smaller than before. It wasn’t as simple of a task with the sun being down. She quickly thanked the plants for their aid under her breath and plucked them up, leaving the stems and a few leaves of each, then mixed them up into a new poultice.

Lythil walked back over to the impatient looking half faerie and sat cross legged on the ground in front of him. Taking his ankle in her lap, she gently smeared a thick layer of the poultice onto his ankle. She looked up at him tentatively.

“This might hurt a little bit, depending on how tender your ankle is…” She took both palms and pressed firmly onto his ankle. Her eyes lit up once more, and a gentle breeze shifted her hair about as she strained against her artificial surroundings to make her powers work. She really didn’t like to have to use alchemy as a catalyst for her powers, but she’d learned to make due since leaving her home. After several moments and a bit of squirming from her patient, she removed her hands. The swelling in his ankle had left, and although there was the faintest hint of shine from where his skin had scarred, the scraping had healed as well. With a simple salve that would likely go away as well.

“All better!” With a job well done, she brushed her hands together and plopped down on the bench next to him.

Jargen's Apothecary Empty Namaarie 15: Beguiled

Post by Gabriel PH Fri Jun 03, 2016 6:55 am

Namaarie winced as the pain quickly dissipated. The pain was pulsing in his head like a headache inducing fever, but now he was finally finding relief. Now this whimsical girl sat next to him, her presence was so tranquilizing and serene. Namaarie couldn't help but feel safe with her, as if they were old friends. However, deep down inside, he learned never to trust his gut. Betrayal is all to familiar to him. "Thank you Lythil, I was in really bad shape but you seem to be a high level healer. You almost completely healed me. It would have taken me a couple of days to properly restore my ankle to this point. I am a healer also, but I don't know how to heal myself." Namaarie caught himself getting too comfortable with this woman. As a matter of fact, he couldn't tell if Lythil was a teenage girl or adult. Something about her eyes was so wise, but her body seemed so youthful. "Anyway, I must be going. I have business to take care of elsewhere in town. As a show of thanks, I'll tell you my name. I am Namaarie... The HalfBreed. If you need me, just call my name." Namaarie paused then ruffled around in his pockets and pulled out his little spellbook. "Once blessed by another, I now return to you, Call out my name, even in summer rain, mine eye and soul shall come through..." A yellow light permeated from Namaarie's body, " Namaarie pulls a ring out of his pocket, "I bless this ring so that I may find you." The yellow light then left him and shined in the bronze ring. "Sorry my spellmanship isn't very poetic. Just wear this ring and call my name and I'll hear you if you need my help. I owe you. You are the find kind soul I've met since I came to this city, I'm not sure I can afford to lose an ally." Namaarie sat the ring in the space between the two of them then stood up to take flight, "May thee fare well," he smiled at her. Then he shot into the night sky. As he gained distance from her, his usual disposition returned, along with it, massive embarrassment. Why did he start acting strange all of a sudden? Did she entrance him?

*Namaarie exits this thread to return to the Inn.*

Jargen's Apothecary Empty Re: Jargen's Apothecary

Post by Lythil Sun Jun 05, 2016 10:20 pm

Lythil 4

Lythil blinked. Well, he was gone. She couldn't say it was unexpected. He was a wiry thing. She turned her head and watched the ring he laid out for her, half expecting it to jump up and run off as well. She picked it up and slid it onto her thumb, all of the other fingers were much too small for it. She trusted him and the ring both without hesitation although she had a feeling he didn't trust himself. He was erratic, fighting back and forth between his good nature and his much harsher nurture.

She stood up under the lamp light and stretched, looking around. There wasn't much going on in the part of town, just a few stragglers here and there. She had very few if any worthwhile leads for her mission. When she happened upon the poor bird she saved earlier she had been equally lost in her pursuit. The past year she had been wandering the countryside, only now feeling up to entering a bustling city. It all seemed too overwhelming before.

Regardless, she only had a few legends to go off of. Typically Omnia had been very forthright and open with his children, but there had always been whispered rumors and legends. Two particular ones went hand in hand; the legend of Primus and a written book of Omnia's teachings. As the story goes, in the beginning of life on Exitium, he entrusted the very first Dryad named Primus with the task of writing down all of his teachings for the purpose of keeping a record of it all. Everything he taught, she wrote. It should have had only the information all Dryads know and nothing else. However, the story goes that Omnia told Primus things he didn't share with the other Dryads, and these too went into the book. What he may have told her, if it all was true, was a complete mystery to Lythil and the other Dryads. Of course, since it was more gossip than anything else, they hypothesized that the book would describe a secret relationship between Omnia and Primus. Everyone would burst into laughter at the mention of that, but nonetheless it got brought up every time. When Primus left, the whispers went from lighthearted to taboo and stopped all together.

Nobody really talked about Primus anymore. There was no telling why she left, or if she "left" at all. There was too much respect for her to gossip once she was gone, and nobody wanted to say anything at all when it could potentially be very disrespectful. Or worse. True.

So for Lythil to be using this particular legend as a lead to finding answers about what happened to her dear Maker was very taboo. It wasn't discussed, it wasn't acknowledged, as far as the other Dryads and Hamadryads were concerned the stories were never even told in the first place.

Lythil let out a loud breath. She'd let her head get off into the clouds. A man across the street was looking at her funny. She had been standing completely still for so long, and she was just noticing the strange face of disapproval she had been holding as well. Oh dear, had he thought she was looking at him like that this whole time? How awkward. She turned on her heels and walked in the opposite direction, unsure of where she was even going.

*Lytil leaves this thread and enters the seamstress thread*
